R-E-S-P-E-C-T

In the last few day when I've been out driving, I've encountered emergency vehicles with their lights flashing and sirens blaring... so what did I do each time? - I pulled over to the side...that's what we're supposed to do right?

We're supposed to drive the speed limit, we're supposed to stop at stop signs, we shouldn't cut people off, or drive while changing our clothes...yet we still do it. It's not only dangerous, but it shows a lack of respect for the law and others. Seems like this disrespect is seen everywhere, not just on the road. We're rude, unkind, gossipy, etc. We know it's not the right thing to do, yet we do it anyhow.

What struck me as odd, as I pulled over each time for the emergency vehicles, was that everyone else did. What I mean is, it wasn't odd that I saw everyone else pulling over, because that is what I always see, but it was odd that EVERYONE actually pulled over - they all showed "respect".

What makes this one thing, this one instance, so special... Why are we fine with slowing down and pulling over, but we can't be nice to the cashier when we have to wait an extra 30 seconds longer in line than we have time for?

This act of "pulling over" might perhaps be the most respected thing in this country. I find it weird. I even want to say I find it to be sacred.

So the next time you have to pull over to the side, look around, and breathe in a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Silly reasoning

I got to thinking the other day that for a good portion of the road trip, I will be wearing my new winter hat to keep myself from freezing to death... and I will be taking lots of pictures of me in this said winter hat... and I tried to picture those pictures with my scraggly hair hanging out from under my cute winter hat and I didn't like what I saw... so I got my hair cut today, so I'd look cute in my winter hat for my pictures of the road trip. Silly me.

dreary goodness

It's a dark rainy day and I am starting this blog just because I feel like it. I'm not sure when I'll decide to let the rest of the world in on this little secret. :)

Maggie and I are leaving in one week for a glorious road trip around the New England States. I am beyond excited for the adventures that await us! There will be long hours in the car, tent camping with 40 degree nights and seeing new places every moment of every day. I'm looking forward to everything, even the down times when we're grumpy and tired. I'm so ready to get away from the normal routine and the busy days.
